IMMERSIVE FUTURE CRAFTING
WORKSHOP
SATURDAY, JULY 10, 2021 at 11:00 - 17:00 (EST/UTC/GMT-04:00)
DURATION: 6 HOURS
LANGUAGE: ENGLISH
Virtual work deprived us of sensual perception - the unspoken, the implicit cues, the (in)tangible - can we transfer this experience to a remote workshop? Speculative thinking is sometimes tricky to facilitate in a classic workshop format, it becomes even more challenging in a virtual setup.
In this 6-hour session, we want to reduce screen time and get participants out of their chairs into the world to craft speculative futures. We aim to make it less theoretical - one key benefit of design fiction is to "bring abstract scenarios to life" and we want to leverage that. We will have a long "screen break" for imagination and physical crafting, the facilitators in reach to help with blockers or challenges.
Further, we will embed a short meditation into this experience, in order to set the scene, tap into our wise minds and leave daily life distractions behind. We want to create a state where we can freely dream about futures - without (or at least less) preconceptions and adapted narratives. After a reflection and collection of thoughts, ideas, and possible future ingredients, participants will be sent outside and get little prompts that help them immerse into their futures.
To address recent pressing issues we will work with strategies for a post Covid era derived from transcendent goals for humanity (inspired by Roman Krznaric, The Good Ancestor) and/or principles from life centered design (e.g. permaculture, regenerative design, circular design). The outcomes are open - but we will have a set of future stories, in the end, told through different media. (e.g. snapshots, video, TikTok snippets, sound, etc.,).
To be frank - this is an experiment - a prototype. And we would love you to join us on this journey.
