ABOUT US
PRIMER is a conference about Futures
It was created to prepare you for the future and to equip you to help shape it.
It is the annual conference produced by the Design Futures Initiative, a 501c3 nonprofit based in San Francisco, CA, and the annual gathering for the Speculative Futures community.
PRIMER conference was first organized in 2015 by the Design Futures Initiative and was originally created to serve its growing network of Speculative Futures meetups. The conference brings together futures communities from around the world by connecting a diverse spectrum of thought leaders, practitioners, artists, and academics to showcase their work and teach/learn new methods through workshops.
The Design
Futures Initiative
The Design Futures Initiative (DFI) is a volunteer-run nonprofit based in San Francisco, CA. DFI connects designers, strategists, engineers, scientists, artists, and futurists from around the world. We facilitate programs and conversations on the ethical, environmental, political, and economic impact of future products and services.
Community
Our international network Speculative Futures chapters brings communities together through a variety of events to imagine and take action on creating futures for all.
Events
We facilitate several in-person and online events to connect our chapters and members from around the world.
Programs
We are working on several programs and initiatives to help grow the field of futures thinking and speculative practice: Futures x Design, our Youth Program, and Futuring Peace.
